DHARAMSALA, India : India's Mohammed Shami produced a match-winning display in his first appearance at the 50-overs World Cup and the seamer said he had no issues warming the bench until his recall for Sunday's clash against 2019 runners-up New Zealand.
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has had a dream start to his Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign. The right-arm pacer, who warmed the bench during the first four matches of India, finally got a chance in the fifth game of the team - against New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Shami got off to a superb start as he took the wicket of Will Young. A short of length delivery from the pacer around off stump saw Young getting an inside edge on the ball that hit the stumps eventually.
The Indian cricket team's selection committee has never been away from criticism and the MSK Prasad-led panel was no exception. The team selection during the 2019 ODI World Cup put the committee under scanner as it dropped an experienced player Ambati Rayudu, India's number 4 batter, and included all-rounder Vijay Shankar in the squad instead. Gautam Gambhir, while commentating during the India vs New Zealand 2023 Cricket World Cup match in Dharamsala on Sunday, criticised the MSK Prasad-led panel by calling it the "worst selection committee".
DHARAMSALA, India : India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field against New Zealand in a mouth-watering clash between the two unbeaten teams in the ongoing 50-overs World Cup in Dharamsala on Sunday.
India and New Zealand will square off at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium, Dharamshala on October 22 in match No. 21 of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. Both sides head into the match in red-hot form having won all their four matches so far. Team India will enjoy the favourites tag having beaten Australia and Pakistan with consummate ease. They also romped home to victories over minnows Afghanistan and Bangladesh to maintain their unbeaten run in the Cricket World Cup. (Cricket World Cup points table)
Mild-mannered Mitch Santner rarely hogs the limelight in the New Zealand team but the all-rounder has made a big noise at the World Cup, taking a screamer of a catch against Afghanistan and a milestone 100th ODI wicket.
India's unbeaten run in the ongoing World Cup has been a result of their all-round performances with the bat and the ball as well as one of the less talked about aspects in cricket, fielding. Stalwart batter Virat Kohli who is well known for his refined batting skills, has been a crucial figure in the field as he tops the chart of players with the biggest impact on the field after the conclusion of the first three games for each country.
New Zealand, the 2019 World Cup runner-ups, will take on Asian side Afghanistan in Match 16 of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 18 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India. The match will start at 02:00 PM IST.
