India captain Rohit Sharma has been in sublime touch in the ongoing ODI World Cup. The veteran opening batter achieved a rare feat on Sunday during India's match against New Zealand in Dharamsala. Rohit became the first Indian player, third overall, to hit 50 or more ODI sixes in a calendar year. Prior to Rohit, only South Africa's AB de Villiers and West Indies great Chris Gayle had struck or more maximums in a calendar year. Rohit achieved the feat after hitting New Zealand pacer Matt Henry for a six in the second over of India's 274-run chase.

Kohli (95 off 104) later anchored India's chase with a near blemish-free knock and shared three crucial 50-run stands with Shreyas Iyer (33), KL Rahul (27) and Ravindra Jadeja (39 not out) to guide his side home in 48 overs.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has had a dream start to his Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign. The right-arm pacer, who warmed the bench during the first four matches of India, finally got a chance in the fifth game of the team - against New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Shami got off to a superb start as he took the wicket of Will Young. A short of length delivery from the pacer around off stump saw Young getting an inside edge on the ball that hit the stumps eventually.

The team selection during the 2019 ODI World Cup put the committee under scanner as it dropped an experienced player Ambati Rayudu, India's number 4 batter, and included all-rounder Vijay Shankar in the squad instead.
