Indian badminton star and Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal on Wednesday arrived in Mahakumbh Nagar to take a dip in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh. Calling Maha Kumbh the world's largest spiritual gathering, she said she felt fortunate to be part of such a grand event. The shuttler said she would be visiting Triveni Sangam with her father in the evening and expressed her wish to return with her mother in the future. Sharing her thoughts on the occasion, Saina said, "Being part of this sacred event is a special experience. I congratulate the Uttar Pradesh government for organising such a magnificent festival. I hope more and more people visit here and make it known worldwide." She said it was a massive celebration and she felt "truly lucky" to be there.

The 41-year old revealed she ‘could not digest,' the poor performance at the event. “I felt bad from the inside, there was no progress. The Paris Olympics was disappointing, all the boxers were washed out. I could not digest their performance and just kept thinking ‘agar mai jaati to' (If I was there instead). I can still fight better than these girls, performance wise, but could not participate due to the age limit."

No stranger to the physical toll of weight management during a competition, six-time world champion boxer MC Mary Kom Thursday waded into the debate surrounding wrestler Vinesh Phogat's Olympic heartbreak for being 100gm over, saying that to be within the prescribed limit is an individual responsibility. The 42-year-old mother of four, who is India's only woman boxer with an Olympic medal (a bronze in London, 2012), was in the city to promote Utkarsh Small Finance Bank, which named her as its brand ambassador.

The Indian Olympic Association's executive council meeting in New Delhi on Thursday is expected to be a heated affair with its members adding contentious items on the agenda, including the alleged "threatening letters" issued by president PT Usha to them. The meeting will take place in the backdrop of growing tensions between Usha and IOA treasurer Sahdev Yadav.
