Mark Allen held on to beat Mark Selby 5-3 in a marathon quarter-final match at the British Open. Four-time world champion Selby was the biggest name left in the draw after a series of high-profile exits; Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, John Higgins and Mark Williams were among those to bow out early. Ad But 2018 Masters champion Allen came into the last eight on the back of a tense 4-3 win over Trump and knowing that his head-to-head record with Selby was dead level at seven wins apiece.
Ben Woollaston has revealed he may not recover from the chronic fatigue syndrome that has blighted his snooker career. The world No. 43 reeled off four straight frames in a 4-1 victory over defending champion Mark Williams in the last 64 of the British Open on Tuesday evening before opening up on his bigger battle away from the green baize.
Seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry had little sympathy for Mark Williams after the Welshman was unceremoniously knocked out of the British Open by world No. 44 Ben Woollaston. Williams lost 4-1 in a bitty encounter that saw Woollaston profit from his opponent's profligacy when at the table, with the three-time world champion simply unable to locate any potting consistency.
Barry Hawkins cruised into the third round of the British Open with a comfortable win over Kyren Wilson. It was revenge for Hawkins after his heavy 9-3 loss to Wilson in the final of the 2022 European Masters in August, their last meeting on tour.
