World number two Mark Selby reached the last 32 of the WST Classic with a narrow 4-3 win over Zhang Anda. The four-time world champion trailed 2-0 before rattling off three straight frames, including two 50 breaks, to go in front.
Ding Junhui was sent tumbling out of the WST Classic at the first hurdle by Xu Si, leaving his Tour Championship hopes hanging in the balance. The Chinese superstar, who returned to the winner’s circle for the first time since 2019 with victory at the Six Red World Championship in Thailand earlier in the month, arrived at the Morningside Arena in Leicester as seventh on the one-year list for qualification for the eight-player Tour Championship .
Joe Perry made an impressive start to his Welsh Open snooker title defence with a 4-0 whitewash of former Northern Ireland Open winner Mark King in his tournament opener in Llandudno. 'The Gentleman' – top seed at the 11th ranking event of the season after lifting his first major title with a 9-5 victory against Judd Trump last year – finished with knocks of 62 and 52 to secure a last-64 clash with Mark Joyce at Venue Cymru.
Mark Selby beat Ricky Walden 4-1 in his opening match at the British Open at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes. In a clash between two top 16 players, it was a cagey affair with neither player anywhere near their best.
