Ronnie O’Sullivan has been knocked out of Championship League Snooker at the second group stage after surprise defeats to young Chinese talents Yuan Sijun and Pang Junxu.
Mark Allen enjoyed a perfect start to the new snooker campaign by winning all three matches to top Group 12 at the Championship League in Leicester. The Northern Irishman – who lost last year's final 3-1 to David Gilbert – started his day with a 3-0 win over Himanshu Jain before two 3-1 victories over Jenson Kendrick and Stuart Carrington respectively secured his progress.
David Gilbert made an unbeaten start to the defence of his Championship League title to reach the last 32 at Leicester's Morningside Arena. Gilbert enjoyed two 3-0 wins over Florian Nuessle and Zak Surety respectively before claiming the 2-2 draw he needed against Joe O'Connor – making runs of 78 and 100 – to win Group 16 on seven points, one points clear of Nuessle.
Ronnie O'Sullivan and his fierce Essex rival Ali Carter will clash at the Championship League after world No. 20 Carter clinched his last-32 spot in style on Thursday.
