Lo intentó hasta el final, pero no pudo ser, acabó noveno unas 500 Millas que se decidieron a al esprint tras una bandera roja a cuatro del final provocada por Jimmie Johnson cuando Ericsson, su compañero en Ganassi iba lanzado a la victoria con más de dos segundos sobre O'Ward. El sueco aguantó las embestidas del mexicano en la relanzada y se llevó la gloria.
