El español Arón Canet (Kalex) consiguió su segunda pole de la temporada después de la de Portugal, al ser el más rápido en la clasificación oficial para el GP de Italia de Moto2, en el circuito de Mugello, por delante del también español Pedro Acosta (Kalex), con el británico Sam Lowes (Kalex) tercero. Canet consiguió una vuelta rápida de 1:51.121 en el quinto de los siete giros que completó al trazado toscano en la segunda clasificación de Moto2, con una ventaja de 125 milésimas sobre Pedro Acosta, que se convirtió en su rival más directo de entrenamientos en esta octava cita del campeonato del mundo de motociclismo.
