India's Chef de Mission Gagan Narang on Saturday consoled shooter Sarabjot Singh who failed to make it to the final round of the men's 10m air pistol event here. Sarabjot and Arjun Singh Cheema sparkled in patches but could not make it to the men's 10m air pistol final. While Sarabjot finished ninth with a total score of 577 in the qualifications, Arjun ended way behind at 18th with 574.
A supremely confident Manu Bhaker was at the top of her game as she entered the 10m women's air pistol final, salvaging the day for Indian shooting after an underwhelming start by her compatriots in the Olympic Games on Saturday. The 22-year-old Bhaker shot 580 to finish third in the qualifications in which Hungarian ace Veronika Major claimed the top spot with a score of 582. The other Indian representative, Rhythm Sangwan, ended 15th with a score of 573. The final will be held on Sunday. Reduced to tears following her forgettable outing in her Games debut in Tokyo three years ago, Bhaker is seeking to add an Olympic medal to her very excellent resume.

A 117-member strong Indian contingent has reached France to begin their quest of medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the last Olympic Games, held in Tokyo in 2021, Team India returned with 7 medals, with Neeraj Chopra's gold in men's javelin throw, arguably being the highlight. While Neeraj is a strong contender to repeat his Tokyo Games heroics in Paris, there are big expectations from some other athletes too, including PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, Achanta Sharath Kamal, Manu Bhaker, etc.
Indian contingent will kickstart its Paris Olympics journey from July 25 onwards, with 117 athletes set to feature in 69 medal events across 16 sports. A 29-member athletics team led by Neeraj Chopra will represent a large chunk of the contingent that will be travelling to France for the Olympics. There will also be a 21-member-strong shooting contingent, which will be the second-largest team sent by India for any sport at Paris 2024. This is the biggest shooting team India has sent in its Olympic history, with 15 shooters sent during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics being in second place, as per Olympics.com.

Two medals in wrestling, one each in badminton, weightlifting and boxing, a return to silverware in men's hockey and a glorious gold by Neeraj Chopra in javelin, were the events where India shone brightest in Tokyo. Coming into Paris, India remain strong contenders in each of those areas, but may well cause a surprise in a few more events.
