Demi Vollering soloed to victory at the Women's Amstel Gold Race on Sunday in Valkenburg. On a parcours containing 21 climbs and one that was 30km longer than last year, it was Vollering who broke away in the final kilometre to outlast the rest and secure a memorable win after finishing second in the previous two editions of the race.
Alison Jackson won the Paris-Roubaix Femmes on Saturday after helping a long breakaway survive over the cobbles of the one-day classic, then holding off Katia Ragusa and Marthe Truyven in a sprint finish at Roubaix's velodrome.
Alison Jackson (EF Education–Tibco–SVB) produced a seismic shock to win Paris-Roubaix Femmes as the breakaway held off a chasing group packed with pre-race favourites. The seven-strong alliance saw their lead slashed to just 10 seconds at one point as they arrived on the final section of cobblestones with 1.4km remaining, but they went down swinging and held on to reach the famous Roubaix Velodrome with a slender advantage as a sprint beckoned.
Italian Katia Ragusa of LIV Racing was second and Fenix-Deceuninck rider Marthe Truyen of Germany was third as outsiders took the top six in a feared racing date known as the "Hell of the North".
Defending champion Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek-Segafredo) slid out on a muddy section of cobblestones at Paris-Roubaix Femmes to cause a dramatic crash among a strong group of favourites. The Italian was leading over a dozen riders in pursuit of the day’s breakaway when she suddenly lost control with 37km remaining, falling to one side and sparking a mass pile-up behind. Pre-race favourite Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx) and Elisa Balsamo (Trek-Segafredo) were among those caught up in the carnage.

The Belgian, who has been in scintillating form in 2023 including victory at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, pulled away with two team-mates and Silvia Persico (UAE Team ADQ) at the top of the Koppenberg, before going clear with Persico and then putting the hammer to the Italian on the penultimate cobbled climb, with 18km remaining.
