The Hearts boss is still looking to add to his unit with the Scottish Premiership kick-off now less than two weeks away. In particular, the Tynecastle side are seeking to sign a new striker with Euan Henderson currently the only natural alternative to last season’s top goalscorer Liam Boyce.
The former Dundee United striker has been on the Hearts manager’s radar for some time, but talks with his Belgium side Beerschot have not progressed.
The Tynecastle club are understood to be looking to recruit a right-sided centre-back, midfielder and at least one striker before the summer transfer window closes, but are in no immediate rush and are prepared to dip into the English loan market again if they can’t land their primary targets.
The club have confirmed there’s an interest in Ellis Simms, the goalscoring hero in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, along with former St Mirren playmaker Connor Ronan and ex-Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland. Yet there exists a £500,000 stumbling block in each case – the supposed transfer fee slapped on the heads of each of these individuals by their respective clubs. There’s also Dylan Levitt, who is reportedly available for a fee of £350,000 from Manchester United after an impressive spell at Dundee United last summer.
Hearts are reassessing their strike options now that they have been priced out of the chase to secure Ellis Simms’ services next term, switching attention elsewhere as they work to bolster their goal-scoring threat.
