New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr made history on Tuesday by becoming the first Kiwi recipient of the prestigious Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, earning the title of ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year for her exceptional performances in 2024. The 24-year-old stood out among her peers, surpassing Laura Wolvaardt, Chamari Athapaththu, and Annabel Sutherland to claim the top honour in women's cricket. Kerr is not only the first New Zealander to win the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy but also the first Kiwi to be recognised as ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year in any category.
Charismatic India opener Smriti Mandhana, was on Monday, named ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year for her phenomenal performance that saw the left-hander score tons of runs in 2024. The India vice-captain, who was the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year in 2018 and 2022, racked up 747 runs in 13 innings to set new career standards in ODIs. She put several batting stalwarts, including the likes of South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt, England's Tammy Beaumont (554) and West Indies' Hayley Matthews, to shade.

Mandhana and Deepti were also named in the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2024 on Friday. Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu, along with two ICC Women's T20 World Cup finalists - Melie Kerr and Laura Wolvaardt - and Ireland batter Orla Prendergast, has been nominated for the ICC Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year for 2024. Despite encountering an unexpected slump in the Women's T20 World Cup, Athapaththu was the second-highest run-getter in a calendar year in women's T20Is. Her 720 runs included two hundreds and four half-centuries, with 86 fours and 32 sixes to her name. Apart from her exploits with the willow, Athapaththu also picked 21 wickets in the period.
