However, this rendezvous began on a hilarious note as Jayawardene was quick to spot the "grey hair" on Rohit as he made a comment relating to the captaincy responsibilities of the Indian cricket team as well. "He has got more grey hair after beginning captaincy," joked Mahela as the Sri Lankan shook hands and shared a hug as the duo embark on another journey to reclaiming the IPL crown from defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Suryakumar Yadav might have to sit out of the Mumbai Indians' IPL opener against Delhi Capitals on March 27 as he is unlikely to fully recover from a hairline fracture on his thumb. Yadav, one of the four players retained by Mumbai Indians, sustained the injury during the T20 series against the West Indies and subsequently missed the assignment against Sri Lanka. "Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a real touch and go affair," a senior BCCI source privy to developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity. "So there could be a possibility that he might be advised by the board's medical team to not risk playing the opener," he added.

Suryakumar Yadav played in the anchor's role in the third and final T20I on Sunday, scoring 65 off just 31 balls, smashing seven sixes and a solitary four. With India struggling at 93 for four after a top-order collapse, Suryakumar and Venkatesh Iyer (35 off 19) stitched a 91-run stand for the fifth wicket, taking the team to a total of 184 for five.
