Ben Stokes' premature retirement from ODIs has raised concerns in world cricket. The England Test captain, in his statement announcing ODI retirement, clearly mentioned: "Three formats are just unsustainable for me now. Not only do I feel that my body is letting me down because of the schedule and what is expected of us, but I also feel that I am taking the place of another player who can give Jos and the rest of the team their all. It's time for someone else to progress as a cricketer and make incredible memories like I have over the past 11 years."
Virat Kohli regain touch by sorting his batting woes, especially his weakness outside off stump. Kohli is enduring a wretched run with the bat and has failed to score a century since November 2019. He could manage just 76 runs from six innings across formats on the England soil, which included the rescheduled fifth Test, two ODIs and as many T20s.
Three-time Grand Slam winner Ash Barty shocked the tennis world when she announced her retirement from the sport at the age of just 25.
Kevin Pietersen on Saturday threw his weight behind the out-of-form Virat Kohli, saying that he should be proud as "people can only dream about" what he has achieved. The former Indian skipper is enduring a wretched run with the bat and has failed to score a century since November 2019. "You go big guy! People can only dream about what you've done in cricket. And they're some of the best players that have played the game," Pietersen wrote in a social media post.
Virat Kohli is one of the most talked about cricketers, and off late, his slump in form has become the talk of the town. The right-handed batter had last scored an international ton in 2019 and since then, the three-figure mark has kept on evading him. Off late, there has been a huge support for Kohli, coming from all parts of the world, and in a latest, former England captain Kevin Pietersen on Saturday asked Kohli to be proud and walk tall.
India batter Virat Kohli is going through the leanest patch of his career at the moment. While a century has been eluding him since 22nd November 2019, this year he has barely managed to stay at the crease for long. In India's ongoing tour to England, Kohli has performed poorly with the bat. He scored 11 and 20 in the fifth and rescheduled Test match against England before scoring 1 and 11 in the two T20Is he played on the tour. Kohli, who missed the first ODI against England due to a groin strain, was dismissed for a 25-ball 16 in the second ODI.
Switch hit is one shot that still attracts polarising opinions, with some having the opinion that the shot gives undue advantage to the batters. Earlier this week, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had said that the batters should be adjudged LBW even if the ball pitches outside leg stump while trying to play the switch hit. Now, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has said that the switch hit should be banned completely and the batter should not be able to change the position of his hands and feet.
