INDIAN WELLS, California: Coco Gauff rallied from a break down in the third set to beat Swedish qualifier Rebecca Peterson, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 Tuesday and reach the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open.
Coco Gauff reached the quarter-finals of Indian Wells for the first time with a 6-3 1-6 6-4 victory over Rebecca Peterson, while Maria Sakkari beat Karolina Pliskova. Gauff looked to be in control when she won the first set 6-3, but her Swedish unseeded opponent fought back strongly in the second, levelling things up when she claimed the second 6-1.
Jessica Pegula and Maria Sakkari both came from a set down for the second time in as many matches at Indian Wells to reach the fourth round. Third seed Pegula followed up her opening win over Camila Giorgi with a 3-6 6-4 7-5 victory over 26th seed Anastasia Potapova. Ad Last year’s runner-up, Sakkari, came from a set and a break down to beat 27th seed Anhelina Kalinina.
