BEIJING : Russian figure skating fans reacted with dismay at reports women's gold medal favourite Kamila Valieva failed a doping test, putting the Russian Olympic Committee's (ROC) title in the team event under a cloud.
BEIJING : Kamila Valieva is accustomed to the attention that comes with being an Olympic gold medal favourite, but she never faced quite as much scrutiny as she did on Thursday morning at a practice rink adjacent to Beijing's Capital Indoor Stadium.
The IOC said on Thursday it would not comment on the ongoing “legal issue” surrounding the continued delay of the medal ceremony for the team figure skating in Beijing. AP, Reuters and others named 15-year-old Russian superstar Kamila Valieva as central to the delay.
Russian figure skating sensation Kamila Valieva has reportedly tested positive for a banned drug. After the medal ceremony for the team figure skating event was postponed on Wednesday for what the International Olympic Committee called «legal issues,» Russian newspapers reported that Valieva had tested positive for trimetazidine, a drug usually used to treat heart-related chest pain.
