South Africa maintained their remarkable record against India in 2022 with Heinrich Klaasen playing a clinical knock on a challenging surface in the second T20 on Sunday.
South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has now taken 50 wickets in T20 internationals. Rabada reached the landmark during the second T20I of the five-match series against India at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. After South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl, the fifth delivery of the first over was driven loosely by the opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and was caught at the point by Keshav Maharaj, earning Rabada his 50th scalp in the shortest format of the game. Gaikwad was back to the pavilion for just 1 of 4 balls.
India vs South Africa, 2nd T20I Live Updates: India have been put in to bat by South Africa in the second T20 International (T20I) of their five-match series in Cuttack on Sunday. Quinton de Kock misses out with an injury, with Heinrich Klassen replacing him. Reeza Hendricks has come in for Tristan Stubbs. India remain unchanged. South Africa pulled off a stunning chase of 212 in the series opener in New Delhi and the hosts will be looking to level matters at the Barabati Stadium. Cuttack is brimming with excitement for the match, with the stands full even for India's training session on the eve of the match. Rishabh Pant is captaining the hosts, with designated skipper KL Rahul ruled out with a groin injury on the eve of the first T20I. South Africa, meanwhile, will be full of confident after stunning knocks from David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen powered them to a 7-wicket win that gave them a 1-0 lead in the series. South Africa pulled off a heist in the first T20I against India as the visitors chased down 212 to go 1-0 up in the five-match series. David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen put on an unbeaten stand of 131 runs for the fourth wicket to take Proteas over the line. South Africa and India will now square off in the second T20I on Sunday at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack and it would be interesting to see whether the Proteas field the same playing XI or not.
South Africa's star players were part of the two-month long IPL that preceded the ongoing T20 series against India and Proteas seamer Wayne Parnell said it will be a challenge to keep them "mentally ready" over the course of the five games. David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Rassie van der Dussen and Anrich Nortje were among the players who were part of the IPL. However, there was no sign of any fatigue as the visitors thrashed India in the first ODI in Delhi.
India and South Africa will be squaring off in the second T20I of the five-match series on Sunday at Barabati Stadium. The Rishabh Pant-led side had lost the first game by seven wickets even after posting 211/4 in 20 overs. A below-par performance with the ball cost the hosts dearly and the Proteas chased down 212 with seven wickets in hand and five balls to spare. Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Avesh Khan were unable to execute their yorkers in the death overs, and hence David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen made them pay. So it would be interesting to see whether the hosts make any changes to their lineup, with the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik waiting in the wings.
Scoreboard often reveals what is suggestive and conceals what is vital. In all likelihood, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad will not open for India when they take on Pakistan in their opening T20 World Cup game at the MCG in the last week of October. Yet, this series will be the first of its kind indicator of how life without Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli will look as and when the situation arises. If the first evening is any indicator, the Ruturaj Gaikwads and the Ishan Kishans are ready to shed the archaic style of safety first approach that became India's undoing during the last global edition.
