India and South Africa meet each other for the deciding third ODI match at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. While the Proteas had won the first game, which was reduced to 40 overs-a-side, by 9 runs, the hosts bounced back and registered a dominating 7-wicket win in the second game. Indian bowlers did a commendable job in the second match, especially in the slog overs. However, it is the poor form of India's openers -- Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill -- that would be troubling the side.
World Cup, scheduled to be held in India, Shubman Gill will in all probability be one of the first-choice picks. The 23-year-old's game is modelled perfectly for ODIs and Tests and it is very good to see him not being pushed into T20Is, despite him being a regular in the IPL. He is yet to play a T20I match. The tournament that someone like Shubman will be eyeing the most right now is of course the next edition of the ODI World Cup next year.

AS IT HAPPENEDChasing 279 on a track that was a bit on the slower side, but without any demons in it, the southpaw started off patiently and, once set, took the aggressive route, blazing away to 93 off 84 balls with four boundaries and seven sixes. Shreyas Iyer resumed from where he had left off in the last match (50) and played the anchor's role to perfection to take India home to a series-levelling seven-wicket win with 25 balls to spare. In the process, the Mumbai cricketer notched up his second ODI century. It was his fifth 50-plus score in the last six ODI innings.
Mohammed Siraj bowled a brilliant spell in Ranchi as India beat South Africa in the 2nd ODI on Sunday. However, in a hilarious instance, the pacer tried a cheeky run-out which ended up in four byes for South Africa. In the 48th over, Siraj got the ball to beat Keshav Maharaj. Sanju Samson, from behind the stumps, threw the ball back to Siraj, who saw non-striker David Miller standing outside his crease. He tried to have a quick throw at the stumps to run Miller out, but he missed and the ball raced away to the boundary.

Cricket South Africa's premier T20 competition will get underway on January 10 next year and six teams -- MI Cape Town, Durban Super Giants, Johannesburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and SunRisers Eastern Cape will be participating in the tournament. All six franchises have owners who have teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the competition is being touted as the next big thing in terms of T20 cricket. As there are only 90 odd days to go for the competition, former South Africa spinner Robin Peterson, who is also the general manager of MI Cape Town, spoke to NDTV on what to expect from the tournament.
