CAPE TOWN (Reuters) - South Africa have named a largely unchanged One-Day International squad for the three-match home series with Bangladesh on March 18-23, with only all-rounder Sisanda Magala missing out after he failed a fitness test.
South Africa have named a largely unchanged one-day international squad for the three-match home series with Bangladesh from March 18 to 23, with only all-rounder Sisanda Magala missing out after he failed a fitness test. But it is otherwise the same selection that defeated India 3-0 on home soil in January.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced a 16-man Proteas squad to take on Bangladesh in an upcoming three-game ODI series.
Dean Elgar has urged his teammates to choose national duty in a series against Bangladesh over the upcoming Indian Premier Leageu (IPL) as it is a test of loyalty for them and they must prioritise their country. South Africa are set to play three one-dayers and two Tests against Bangladesh starting March 18, while the IPL is scheduled to be held from March 26 to May 29. The ODIs will be held on March 18, 20 and 23, followed by two Tests starting on March 31 and ending on April 12. According to 'ESPNcricinfo', Cricket South Africa has left it on the players to decide between the lucrative league and turning up for the country in the Bangladesh series. "The players need to give Cricket South Africa an indication of if they are keen to go to the IPL or if they are keen to play for the Test side. It's a bit of a tough one putting that in the players' box but this I guess, this is where you see where players' loyalty lies," Elgar said. "They mustn't forget that Test cricket or one-day cricket got them into the IPL and not the other way around."
The Indian Premier League (IPL) may be a player's money-making dream, but it's proving to be Proteas skipper Dean Elgar's worst nightmare.
Johannesburg — The last round of the Four-Day Series starts on Friday morning and with everything else that’s going on in South African cricket, nevermind the rest of the world right now, you’d be forgiven for going: ‘Huh?’
Shreyas Iyer has jumped a massive 27 spots in the latest ICC T20I rankings, even as Virat Kohli fell out of the top 10. India's recent home series win against Sri Lanka has had major ramifications on the player rankings aiding attacking top-order batter Iyer to make a massive jump to reach the 18th position in the list for batters. Iyer scored three unbeaten half-centuries during India's 3-0 win against Sri Lanka in February, with the 27-year-old amassing an impressive 204 runs at a strike rate of 174. Iyer's teammate pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar jumped three spots to 17th on the bowler rankings.
