SYDNEY : David Warner and Ashton Agar were included in Australia's squad for next month's one-day international series in India on Thursday despite being sent home from the test tour this week.
NEW DELHI : Ashton Agar is the latest Australia player to head home from their shambolic tour of India but will link up with the squad ahead of the one-day leg next month, the touring side said on Wednesday.
Australia's Ashton Agar will take no further part in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy against India as the all-rounder was released from the squad. According to cricket.com.au, Agar has flown home to Perth and will represent Western Australia in the ongoing Sheffield Shield. Agar is the third player from the side to return home after David Warner and Josh Hazlewood, who were ruled out of the series due to injuries. Agar was overlooked for the first two Tests, with Australia opting for Todd Murphy and Matt Kuhnemann, who weren't even part of the initial squad.
With the visitors having lost the first two Tests of the four-match series, the 29-year-old left-arm spinner is the latest Australian to return home midway into the tour."(Agar) has worked incredibly hard, he's done his absolute best to support the team. We acknowledge all work he's done, he's worked his backside off," Dodemaide said."In the first Test (in Nagpur) it was a very close call (between Murphy, Agar and Swepson) as to what spin structure we went with. The question mark of whether the two off-spinners could go together," said the selector on tour.

Australia batter David Warner is out of the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a hairline fracture on their left elbow, Cricket Australia has confirmed. Warner was substituted out of the second Test in New Delhi after sustaining a concussion last week. That blow came not long after the opening batter had been struck on the arm by another rising delivery. Later x-rays revealed that the left-hander had sustained a hairline fracture of the elbow which will keep him out of the remaining two matches of the Test series. However, the southpaw is expected to return for the ODI series later.
The 2023 Border-Gavaskar series is going from bad to worse for Australia. While skipper Pat Cummins had to fly back home due to an illness in the family, marquee pacer Josh Hazlewood has now been ruled out of the entire series, having failed to recover from an Achilles injury that has been troubling him since the New Year's Test in Sydney.
