Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, smashed multiple world records as he slammed 101 runs off just 38 balls to help Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Gujarat Titans (GT) by eight wickets in IPL 2025, completing the quickest 200-plus chase in IPL history. As a result, RR keep their playoff hopes alive in IPL 2025, notching up their third win of the season and ending a five-game losing streak. GT, on the other hand, suffered their third loss and a big hit to the net run-rate, which has now dropped below Mumbai Indians'. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stay on top.
JAIPUR: Indian batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi on Monday became the youngest to hit a senior T20 century at 14 years and 32 days as he powered Rajasthan Royals’ successful chase against Gujarat Titans in the IPL.Suryavanshi, a left-hand batsman who became the youngest IPL debutant on April 19, smashed 100 off 35 balls to pummel the opposition attack with seven fours and 11 sixes at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium.Suryavanshi went past the previous record, set by Vijay Zol of Maharashtra at 18 years and 118 days against Mumbai in an Indian domestic match in 2013.Suryavanshi’s ton is the second fastest in the popular T20 tournament after Chris Gayle’s century in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.The teenage sensation finally fell bowled to fast bowler Prasidh Krishna for 101 off 38 balls and walked off to a standing ovation from the home crowd and the team dugout. His 166-run opening stand with fellow left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal launched his team’s chase of 210. They reached the target with 25 balls and eight wickets to spare.Jaiswal hit an unbeaten 70 and put on an unbeaten stand of 41 with stand-in-skipper Riyan Parag who hit the winning six in his 15-ball 32.But Suryavanshi’s masterclass took the limelight from everything including opposition knocks from Gujarat skipper Shubman Gill, who hit 84, and Jos Buttler, who struck an unbeaten 50.Gujarat posted 209-4 but the total did not survive Suryavanshi’s blitz.

RR have won only two matches out of nine so far this season. (Live Scorecard)
Legendary Anil Kumble reckons Rajasthan Royals' decision to not retain Jos Buttler and Kolkata Knight Riders' improper utilisation of Andre Russell are factors that have contributed significantly to the struggles of the former IPL winners thus far. Having played eight matches each so far, the defending champions KKR have lost five while the Royals have endured defeats in six. In a select media interaction on Wednesday, JioStar expert Kumble said, "Jos Buttler is someone who sort of was the key player for Rajasthan Royals for a while. He was instrumental in single-handedly doing damage to the opposition."
KOLKATA: Shubman Gill led from the front with his 55-ball 90 to help Gujarat Titans hammer holders Kolkata Knight Riders by 39 runs on Monday and consolidate their top spot in the IPL.Gujarat posted 198-3 after Sai Sudharsan, who hit 52, and Gill put on 114 runs for the first wicket to lay the foundations of the total at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The bowlers then combined to restrict Kolkata to 159-8 with skipper Ajinkya Rahane playing a lone hand with 50 to register Gujarat’s sixth win in eight matches.Kolkata, who won their third title of the popular T20 tournament last year, slipped to their fifth defeat in eight matches. The batters set up victory for Gujarat with England’s Jos Buttler hitting an unbeaten 41 off 23 balls as he steered the team after the opening stand between the Sudharsan and Gill.“We never talk about that one of us has to stay until the end,” player-of-the-match Gill said on being asked about one of their top three staying through to the end in most of the matches.“We just talk about how we can score runs in these conditions and how to take the game deep.”Gill was watchful at the start but the left-handed Sudharsan hit a few boundaries to get Gujarat going after being invited to bat first.Gill took on Moeen Ali with a six and two fours in the second spell for the former England spinner and soon reached his third half-century of the season. The in-form Sudharsan raised his fifth 50-plus score in this edition as he went past 400 runs to nudge out Lucknow Super Giants batsman Nicholas Pooran (368) as the leading batsman.Buttler is third with 356 runs in his eight innings.Andre Russell handed Kolkata its first breakthrough as the pace bowler dismissed Sudharsan after his 36-ball knock but he came under
Kolkata Knight Riders' chances of reaching the IPL 2025 playoffs were dealt a massive blow as the Ajinkya Rahane-led side slumped to a 39-run loss against Gujarat Titans in Kolkata on Monday. It was KKR's fifth defeat in 8 matches as they are currently seventh in the IPL table with 6 points. Following this loss, KKR will have to win all of their remaining six matches to guarantee their spot in the playoffs. However, they can still qualify if they win 5 out of their remaining 6 matches but in that scenario, the net run rate and other team's results may play a huge role. If KKR win 4 more matches in IPL 2025, they will be all but out of the playoffs race but a slight chance will remain mathematically.
