IPL 2022: You've got to swallow your ego sometimes and hang in there, says Jos Buttler on jittery start against Gujarat Titans

Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler had no qualms in admitting that he struggled to get going initially against Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier, saying sometimes you have to "swallow your ego" and hang in there without panicking. This season's Orange Cap holder Buttler, who now has 718 runs in 15 games, initially failed to time the ball and was 39 off his first 38 balls.

IPL 2022: Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson feels pitch changing nature worked to Gujarat Titans' advantage

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson's team did everything right while batting on a "two-paced" wicket, putting up an imposing 188/6, built mainly on the efforts of their charismatic opener Jos Buttler (89 off 56) and the captain himself (47 off 26). But little did Samson know that the Eden Gardens wicket would become a featherbed when Gujarat Titans come in to bat. The Hardik Pandya-led side reached the target with ease, chasing down Rajasthan's total for the loss of just three wickets and with three balls to spare to secure a place in the IPL 2022 final.

Watch: Riyan Parag Left Fuming After Run-Out Due To Mix-Up With Ravichandran Ashwin In IPL 2022 Qualifier 1

During the final over of Rajasthan Royals' innings against Gujarat Titans in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, there was high drama after a mix-up saw Riyan Parag run-out at the non-striker's end. Jos Buttler was run-out off the final delivery of RR's 20th over, bowled by Yash Dayal, but it was a no ball, so the new batter Ravichandran Ashwin was facing a free hit, with Riyan Parag at the other end. Dayal bowled a wide and Parag, wanting to take strike to maximise the free hit, sprinted down to the striker's end. Ashwin, however, did not leave his crease.

Hardik Pandya praises 'Killer' Miller as Gujarat Titans reach IPL 2022 final

Hardik Pandya on Tuesday hailed "match-winner" David Miller after the South African batsman led newcomers Gujarat Titans in to the IPL final with a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals. Chasing 189 for victory in the first qualifier, Gujarat rode an unbeaten 106-run fourth-wicket stand between Pandya (40) and Miller (68) to achieve the target with three balls to spare in Kolkata. With 16 needed off the final over, the left-handed Miller smashed each of Prasidh Krishna's first three balls for six to bring the house down at a full capacity Eden Gardens in the first qualifier. Known as 'Killer' Miller for his big hitting, the left-hand batsman smashed three fours and five sixes in his 38-ball knock. "A lot of people counted David Miller out but for us he was always a match-winner from the time we brought him in the auction," Pandya said of the attacking batsman who has been key to Gujarat's success in their debut season.

IPL 2022, GT vs RR: Sensational Miller, captain Pandya chase down tall total as Gujarat Titans enter final in style

Pandya seems to be the best example. The allrounder, who is maturing as leader and performer with every match, once again led from the front to help his side Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 1 of the IPL at the Eden Gardens here on Tuesday. AS IT HAPPENED | SCORECARDWith the win, Gujarat booked a ticket to the final in their maiden appearance in the tournament. It was not a typical slam-bang innings generally associated with T20 cricket, but Pandya, who never looked to be in any trouble, kept the asking rate always under control to steal the thunder from a Sanju Samson-Jos Buttler show earlier in the evening. The Royals put up a 188/6 after being asked to bat first by Pandya. GT reached the target with three balls remaining, thanks to some sensational six-hitting by David Miller (68 off 38 balls, 3x4, 5x6) in the final over, getting 191 for three.

David Miller, Hardik Pandya Take Gujarat Titans Into IPL 2022 Final With Win Over Rajasthan Royals

David Miller hit three effortless sixes which looked like action replays as Gujarat Titans, under their inspirational skipper Hardik Pandya, made a mockery of all the odds to reach the final of IPL-15 with a seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. On a track that was two-paced, Royals rode on Jos Buttler's 56-ball-89 to post 188 for six in 20 overs, which seemed like a winning total considering the pressure of the occasion. But Pandya (40 no off 27 balls) and Miller (68 off 38 balls) added 101 runs in exactly 10 overs to seal the deal with three balls to spare.
