Pandya led by example in Sunday's final against 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals as Gujarat triumphed by seven wickets in front of more than 100,000 fans at their home ground in Ahmedabad. Pandya claimed three crucial wickets, including that of the tournament's leading scorer Jos Buttler, to restrict Rajasthan to a total which Gujarat chased down with 11 balls to spare.
Rajasthan Royals star Jos Buttler was left distraught after his dismissal in the IPL 2022 final against Gujarat Titans. The Royals won the toss and opted to bat, but were set back by Yashasvi Jaiswal's early wicket. Buttler helped rebuild with captain Sanju Samson, but the latter too fell in the ninth over. With the onus on the season's leading run-getter to help the team put up a big score, Buttler looked to get going, but he was dismissed by Hardik Pandya for 39. Shubman Gill's six off Obed McCoy's bowling sealed the deal for debutants Gujarat Titans as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in the final to win the IPL title here at the Narendra Modi stadium on Sunday. Gill scored an unbeaten 45 off 43 balls to ensure his team chased down 131-run target in 18.1 overs.
Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya stood up for his team when it mattered the most as he took three wickets with the ball to help restrict Rajasthan Royals to 130/9. In the end, Gujarat Titans registered a comfortable win to win the IPL title in their debut season. Heading into IPL 2022, there were question marks on Hardik's bowling, but he reserved his best for the final as he went on to take three wickets, including the prized scalp of Jos Buttler.
