England's Test captain Ben Stokes has been rested from the home T20 series against South Africa as part of the team's workload management. Stokes, who is currently playing the ODI series against India, will also feature in the 50-over games against South Africa beginning July 19 before being rested from the T20 series starting July 27.
Matthew Potts has earned his first call-up to the England one-day international squad for next week's series against South Africa.
In the second ODI at Lord's, Virat Kohli began his innings in stylish fashion, hitting three beautiful drives off England's best bowler on the day, Reece Topley. However, he flattered to deceive as David Willey had him nicking behind for 16 as England went on to eventually thrash the visitors by 100 runs to level the series 1-1. The match saw Kohli's lean streak continue and former India batter Aakash Chopra rued the fact that it looked like Kohli was set for a big knock, but fell flat in the end.
Virat Kohli's lean patch with the bat continued on Thursday as the player was dismissed for a 25-ball 16 against England in the second ODI at Lord's, London. Chasing a delivery from David Willey outside off stump, Kohli edged the good length ball to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. It is worth noting that Kohli, who has failed to take his innings deep in the past few matches, had missed the first ODI vs England due to a groin strain. He returned to the squad for the second game but that couldn't change his fortunes as England bowlers outfoxed him once again in the ongoing tour.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won a lot of hearts after he tweeted his support for Virat Kohli, who is going through a lean patch. Kohli was dismissed for 16 in the second ODI against England and soon after, Babar put out a tweet, saying "this too shall pass". As soon as the tweet was made public, fans started praising Babar for supporting Kohli. The 28-year-old took an outstanding 6-24 as 50-over world champions England, defending a seemingly modest 246, bounced back from their humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the Oval on Tuesday to level this three-match series at 1-1 ahead of Sunday's decider at Old Trafford. Topley made his international debut back in 2015 but four years of his career have been blighted by injuries, with the paceman suffering four separate stress fractures of his back.
