Jonny Bairstow praises team after Test victory at Trent Bridge
England have produced four remarkable Test victories since the start of the international summer, with a series whitewash over New Zealand and a record-breaking chase against India at Edgbaston.
The Indian team, under Dravid's tutelage, has lost its last three overseas Test matches -- two in South Africa and one in Birmingham. It failed to defend a whopping 378-run target in the just-concluded game against England. India scored 266 in their second innings in Johannesburg, 198 in Cape Town and 245 in Birmingham, which has been effectively third innings of a Test match. In all these three games, India failed to defend targets like 240, 212 and now 378.
His first-innings haul of 3-68 -- which included all of England's top three -- surpassed Bhuvneshwar Kumar's record of 19 wickets during a five-match series in 2014. Bumrah added to his tally by taking 2-74 during England's second innings in Birmingham. The 28-year-old ended the series with 23 wickets at 22.47, but for all his efforts the fast bowler was unable to prevent England chasing down a target of 378 with more than two sessions to spare in a seven-wicket win.
After one win in 17 Tests, England have now secured four victories on the bounce, with each of them coming after superb run chases.
BIRMINGHAM, England :Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow smashed unbeaten hundreds to pull off England's record chase of 378 against India for a series-levelling seven-wicket victory on Tuesday in the re-arranged fifth test.
Ben Stokes hailed the brilliance of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root as England’s two finest exponents of ‘Bazball’ steered their side to a phenomenal seven-wicket win over India at Edgbaston.
The Indian cricket team surrendered to a meek loss at the hands of England in the rescheduled 5th Test at Edgbaston on Tuesday, with the hosts chasing down a mammoth fourth innings target of 378 runs in around 2 sessions to inflict a demoralising and humiliating loss at the Indians. This is India's third straight loss in an away Test match in 2022 and signs are not great.
