Dutch win toss and field against New Zealand at World Cup
New Zealand will be opening their World Cup 2023 campaign against England on October 5 in Ahmedabad. Both the teams played in the final match of the 2019 edition of the ODI World Cup, where the Three Lions emerged victorious. With Kane Williamson returning from the injury to lead the team, the Blackcaps will aim to seal the coveted ICC trophy. New Zealand are one of the top contenders to win the ODI World Cup 2023.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson will miss the opening match of his team in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 against England as he continues to recover from knee surgery, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced the batter's availability update on Friday. Williamson was named in Blackcap's 15-member squad for the World Cup after returning from a six-month layoff. The New Zealand skipper will play the role of specialist batter in a warm-up match against Pakistan on Friday in Hyderabad with the aim of batting and fielding in their second and last warm-up against South Africa in Trivandrum on Monday.
The Cricket World Cup 2023 is just round the corner and the ten competing teams have officially submitted their final squads for the competition. India and Australia made late changes to their 15-member squads as Ravichandran Ashwin replaced the injured Axar Patel while Marnus Labuschagne was rewarded for his brilliant run of form in the recently concluded ODI series against India. The tournament will begin on October 5 with England taking on New Zealand. Hosts India will begin their campaign in the competition against Australia in Chennai on October 8.
New Zealand Cricket came up with a heartwarming way to announce the squad for ICC World Cup 2023 and the video posted on their social media handles has gone viral. The video featured family members of the New Zealand cricket team players who introduced them with their name and jersey numbers. "Our 2023 @cricketworldcup squad introduced by their number 1 fans!" BlackCaps captioned the video posted on 'X' (formerly twitter). The video featured Kane Williamson's family, Trent Boult's sons, Rachin Ravindra's parents and Jimmy Neesham's grandmother and many other family members of the cricketers.
