The exclusive list is led by former Sri Lanka player Ranjan Madugalle as the most experienced match referee with 225 Tests, followed by New Zealand's Jeff Crowe (125) and England's Chris Broad (123). According to a release from ICC on Tuesday, Joseph was found to have violated Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the "use of an audible obscenity." The incident took place before the start of play, when Joseph used offensive and abusive language during an exchange with the fourth umpire. The umpire had asked Joseph to avoid stepping onto the pitch with his spikes on, which prompted the inappropriate language.

The ICC has rated Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium pitch, used for India's Test match against Bangladesh, as "very good" with other four home centres used during the season being deemed "satisfactory". In fact, all the three Test venues used against New Zealand -- Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy, Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune's Gahunje and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai -- just about managed "satisfactory" ratings from the ICC match referee. However, Kanpur's Green Park stadium's outfield has been rated "unsatisfactory" by the ICC match referee Jeff Crowe.
