Mohammed Siraj Gives Away 'Player Of The Final' Cash Prize To Asia Cup Groundstaff

Mohammed Siraj, who is also known as 'Miyan Magic' to his fans, won hearts at the R Premadasa stadium here after the final match as he dedicated the ‘Player of the Final' cash prize to the ground staff for their hard work to ensure the final game as also some games earlier went ahead after interruptions caused by rain. A number of games were affected by rain throughout the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka like India's group-stage game against Pakistan and Nepal, Asia Cup final spot decider between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. "This cash prize goes to the groundsmen. This tournament wouldn't have been possible without them," Siraj said.

The entire team of groundstaff, who worked tirelessly to get the grounds in Colombo and Pallekele match-ready for the Asia Cup in midst of full-blown monsoon season, will be rewarded with a prize money of USD 50,000, Asian Cricket Council chairman Jay Shah announced on Sunday. "Big Shoutout to the Unsung Heroes of Cricket! The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are proud to announce a well-deserved prize money of USD 50,000 for the dedicated curators and groundsmen at Colombo and Kandy," Shah wrote on 'X', formerly twitter.

September 8 : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah presented India's greatest batter Sachin Tendulkar with the 'Golden Ticket' ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 which will be held in India from October 5. Ten teams will feature in this Cricket World Cup, across 10 venues from October 5 to November 19, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the tournament opener and the final. The event will feature 48 matches to be played across 46 days.

It is worth noting that Asia Cup 2023 which was earlier slated to take place entirely in Pakistan is now being co-hosted by the country after nine matches of the tournament were moved out to Sri Lanka. "All the full members, media rights holders, and in-stadia rights holders were initially hesitant to commit to hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan. This reluctance stemmed from concerns related to the security and economic situation prevailing in the country," said Shah.

The Asia Cup 2023 venue continues to be part of a hot debate. Initially the continental event was supposed to be held fully in Pakistan but then the Asian Cricket Council, led by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, decided on a hybrid model. Barring four matches, all the other games are being played in Sri Lanka. However, rain has played spoilsport in the matches. In the first India vs Pakistan game at Pallekele, not a single ball could be bowled in the second innings, after Pakistan dismissed India for 266.
