NEW DELHI : India named an unchanged squad for the last two tests again Australia on Sunday, leaving out pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah who is recovering from a back injury.
In the afternoon on Wednesday, the official website of ICC showed India on top of the Test rankings with 115 rating points and Australia as second with 111 points. But later in the evening at around 7 pm IST, cricket's global governing body put Australia back on top with 126 rating points and India as second with 115 points. India had recently beaten Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the first Test in Nagpur.
The mammoth innings and 132-run win helped India dethrone the Aussies from the top spot in the longest format. Already the number one T20I side, India rose to the top spot in the ODI rankings last month when they whitewashed New Zealand 3-match series. India (115) are four rating points ahead of Australia (111) in the Test rankings and a win in the second Test, starting Friday, will not only consolidate their top spot but also aid their push for entering second consecutive World Test Championship Final.India need to win the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 or 3-0 to make the final.
India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Wednesday jumped to the second spot in the ICC Men's Test Bowlers Rankings following his eight-wicket show against Australia in the opening Test in Nagpur. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who made a successful comeback after almost five months due to a knee injury, has moved up to the 16th position, courtesy his player-of-the-match winning effort in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series-opener.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma and batsman Virat Kohli will play in a one-day international (ODI) series against New Zealand this month but will not feature in the following Twenty20 series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Friday.
Premier India paceman Jasprit Bumrah will soon make a comeback to international cricket as he was on Tuesday included in India's squad for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah last played for the Indian team in the T20Is at home again against Australia in September last year, before being ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a stress fracture in his back.
MELBOURNE: India resume their bid for a Twenty20 World Cup semi-final spot when they face Bangladesh on Wednesday (Nov 2) and coach Rahul Dravid said there is no room for complacency despite the 2007 champions losing just one of their last 11 matches to their neighbours.
