Following his side's win and record-breaking knock of 182 against New Zealand in the third ODI, England all-rounder Ben Stokes jokingly "apologised" to teammate Jason Roy for surpassing his highest individual score for England. Stokes surpassed Jason Roy's 180 made against Australia at Melbourne in 2018 to guide England to register a mammoth 368 against the Kiwis in the third ODI of the four-match series at The Oval on Wednesday. A record-breaking knock by Ben Stokes coupled with solid performances by bowlers guided an all-round England to a 181-run win over New Zealand.
LONDON: Ben Stokes struck the highest score by an England batsman in a one-day international on Wednesday (Sep 13), smashing a blistering 182 as the hosts piled up 368 against New Zealand at The Oval.
England all-rounder Ben Stokes admitted that he knew that he would return to ODI cricket to play the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup which will take place in India from October 5. Stokes announced retirement from the ODI last year and even told the media at the end of the Ashes series this year that he had no ambitions to reverse his decision and play in the World Cup. Stokes's blistering knock of 182 off 124 guided England to a massive 181-run victory over New Zealand in the third ODI match on Wednesday.
Ben Stokes struck the highest score by an England batsman in a one-day international on Wednesday, smashing a blistering 182 as the hosts piled up 368 against New Zealand at The Oval. But either side of his remarkable innings, fast bowler Trent Boult kept New Zealand in the game with an impressive return of 5-51 in 9.1 overs. England were set for a colossal total at 348-5 when Stokes was dismissed. But they lost their last five wickets for 20 runs, Boult wrapping up the innings with 11 balls to spare. England were wobbling at 13-2 following Boult's early double strike in the third of a four-match series currently level at 1-1. But Stokes, who only recently reversed his ODI retirement ahead of next month's 50-over World Cup in India, turned the tide in spectacular fashion.
ENG vs NZ, 3rd ODI Live: New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl against England in the third ODI of a four-match series at The Oval in London. With two games down and two more to go, both teams will get the ideal preparations heading into the World Cup. Defending World Cup champions England levelled the series in Southampton on Monday, after the hammering in the opener in Cardiff. Liam Livingstone’s 95 not out from 78 balls bailed England out against New Zealand after Trent Boult marked his first ODI in a year by inducing a top-order collapse at the Ageas Bowl.
After being held to a 2-2 draw in the T20I series, England aim to bounce back to winning ways in the first ODI against New Zealand in Cardiff. The ODI series marks the return of senior pros like Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, Jason Roy among others, who look to get some game time under their belt ahead of the World Cup in India next month. Harry Brook has been given a further chance to force his way into side after being left out of the preliminary squad for the tournament. As for New Zealand, they are still without Kane Williamson, who is still recovering from an injury. However, Trent Boult's return is a massive boost for the Kiwis as they look to prepare for the World Cup. Notably, both teams contested the final of the previous World Cup, and square in the tournament opener this time around.
