Pakistan's Test head coach Jason Gillespie is reportedly reconsidering his options after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided not to renew the contract of assistant coach Tim Nielsen for the upcoming Test series in South Africa. Nielsen, who was appointed as 'high-performance red-ball coach' in August, had been awaiting a contract renewal following Pakistan's tour of Australia. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has brought back Shahid Aslam as the batting coach of the national white-ball squads after the players struggled in the recent series in Australia. Aslam who is a qualified coach has worked for a number of years with the Pakistan team in different capacities including assistant coach, fielding coach and assistant manager. But for the last two years he has been working in a coaching capacity at the High Performance Centre in Lahore. Previously former Test captain Mohammad Yousuf was working as the batting coach with the national team and was then made a national selector.

Aaqib Javed To Remain Pakistan Interim Head Coach Till Champions Trophy

Former pacer Aaqib Javed will remain Pakistan's interim head coach in limited-overs cricket till the Champions Trophy and will also continue in his role on the national selection panel, the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed on Monday. The board said while Javed will handle responsibilities of the being the team's head coach, it will continue its search for another candidate. “The PCB will aim to complete the appointment by the end of the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled from February 19 to March 9,” an official said. Javed has coached Pakistan Super League side Lahore Qalandars in the past and also the Sri Lankan team for a short stint earlier this year as their fast bowling coach.
