Indian cricket team fast bowler Mohammed Shami made his long-awaited comeback as he replaced Arshdeep Singh in the playing XI for the third T20I encounter against England in Rajkot on Thursday. Shami, who last played for India in the ICC World Cup 2023 final against Australia, suffered an ankle injury after the tournament and had to undergo surgery. However, he proved himself in domestic cricket following his recovery and after missing the first two matches, he will be playing for India in Rajkot.
England announced an unchanged playing XI on the eve of the third T20I against India in Rajkot, Gujarat. England continued the trend of announcing their playing XI a day before the T20I. The Three Lions are on the brink of losing the T20I series after suffering defeats in the first two games. For the third T20I, Ben Duckett and Philip Salt will open the innings for England, with captain Jos Buttler coming in at the number three spot. Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jamie Smith, and Jamie Overton will form a formidable middle order. Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, and Mark Wood will lead the pace attack, with Adil Rashid featuring as the sole specialist spinner. As in the previous T20Is, Livingstone may chip in with his leg-spin for a couple of overs.

England batter Harry Brook was bamboozled by India mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy for the second straight game in the ongoing five-match T20I series. Ahead of the second T20I in Chennai, Brook had given a bizarre remark, saying that due to smog in Kolkata, it was difficult to play the spin of Chakravarthy. However, it was deja vu all over again for Brook as Chakravarthy cleaned him up with googly in the second T20I, but this time under the smog-free air of Chennai.
England's Harry Brook gave a bizarre explanation ahead of 2nd T20I against India in Chennai. He said that due to smog in Kolkata, it was difficult to play the spin of Varun Chakravarthy. "But with the smog the other night, it was a lot harder to pick. Hopefully the air is a bit clearer here and we can see the ball a bit easier. Facing spin in T20 cricket is probably the hardest thing in the game, especially because I always get out trying to absolutely smack it," he said.
CHENNAI : Brydon Carse will replace Gus Atkinson for England's second T20 International against India on Saturday while Jamie Smith has also been added to the squad.
Pacer Arshdeep Singh on Wednesday became India's all-time leading wicket-taker in T20Is, surpassing leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the elite list. Arshdeep achieved the feat during the first T20I of the five-match series against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Arshdeep was on 95 wickets heading into the series-opener, just one scalp behind Chahal (96) who is not part of the squad. However, he dismissed England openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett in the first and third over, respectively.
