Mohammed Siraj Backs Lifting Of Saliva Ban From IPL: 'It Will Help Reverse Swing'

India pacer Mohammed Siraj on Thursday wholeheartedly welcomed the BCCI's decision to lift the saliva ban ahead of IPL 2025, saying it will help the bowlers find "reverse swing" even in benign conditions. The BCCI removed the ban on use of saliva on the cricket ball after a majority of the team captains agreed to its proposal, making it the first major competition to do away with the restriction that was a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. "It's very good for bowlers. It's excellent news for us bowlers because when the ball is not doing anything, applying saliva on the ball will increase the chances of finding some reverse swing," Siraj, who has joined Gujarat Titans this season, told PTI.

Rajat Patidar's Whirlwind Fifty Takes Madhya Pradesh To Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Final

Skipper Rajat Patidar led from the front with a scintillating unbeaten fifty as Madhya Pradesh trashed former champions Delhi by seven wickets to storm into their first final in 13 years at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Friday. Opting to field, Madhya Pradesh's bowlers put up a clinical performance, with allrounder Venkatesh Iyer (2/12) leading the charge by taking two wickets to restrict Delhi, the 2018 winners, to a modest 146/5. In reply, MP overhauled the target in 15.4 overs with Patidar top-scoring with a 29-ball 66 not out, which included four fours and six sixes.

Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja disclosed that he was unaware of surpassing renowned pacers Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma to become India's fifth-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. By claiming another five-wicket haul, Jadeja overtook Zaheer and Ishant, marking a significant achievement in his illustrious career. Reflecting on his performance for India, Jadeja candidly admitted he hadn't been aware of his milestone. "Taking a five-for for India in Tests is always special. I didn't know that. I usually check stats when I'm not playing. It's good to know I'm progressing and taking wickets," Jadeja remarked at the close of Day 1.
