India batter Ishan Kishan said that he cannot take his position as the opener for granted and has to be ready for every opportunity he gets. Ishan Kishan said he had learnt a lot from the T20I series against the West Indies. In the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Thursday, Kishan hit an explosive 89 off 57 balls, laced with ten fours and three sixes, to set the base for India's convincing 62-run win over Sri Lanka. It was a far cry from Kishan against the West Indies, who struggled to get going and made just 71 runs in three innings.
India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja imitated actor Allu Arjun's popular dance move from the recent hit movie ‘Pushpa' after taking a wicket against Sri Lanka in the opening T20I of a three-match series, in Lucknow on Thursday. Jadeja, who was making his international return after sitting out in recent months due to injury, dismissed Sri Lanka batter Dinesh Chandimal in the 10th over of the visitors' innings. Jadeja proceeded to celebrate the wicket with a dance move popularised by Allu Arjun from the ‘Srivalli' song in the movie Pushpa. Videos of Jadeja's move went viral on social media and former India cricketer Murali Kartik, who was in the commentary box at that time even termed him as "Ravindra Pushpa."
Ishan Kishan, India skipper Rohit Sharma on Thursday said he was particularly impressed with the way the young opener constructed his innings after the powerplay, something which has proved to be a problem for him in the past. The 23-year-old from Jharkhand blasted a career-best 89 to set up India's crushing 62-run win over Sri Lanka in the first T20I. "I know Ishan for a long time now. We play for the same franchise (Mumbai Indians) in IPL. I know the mindset and ability Ishan has. It was about getting the rhythm back and it was very very pleasing to watch him bat today," Rohit said during the post-match presentation.

Kishan went on to make the best out of the lifeline as he scored 89 to help India to a big total. Wasim Jaffer, former India player, raised a few eyebrows when he excluded Ishan Kishan while picking the team's openers for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka beginning February 24 in Lucknow. Instead, Jaffer went with Ruturaj Gaikwad to partner captain Rohit Sharma. Jaffer also hoped to see Gaikwad being given a "lengthy run". He said Gaikwad should play "at least a couple of games" against Sri Lanka. Talking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer said, "Rohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad should open in this series because India played with Ishan Kishan [against West Indies] and didn't have a great series. It's time India gives Ruturaj a lengthy run of three games or two games at least. So, I feel Rohit and Ruturaj should open in at least a couple of games."

The upcoming 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka is another chance for the team to continue its dominant run in home conditions. The victory over West Indies catapulted India to the top of the ICC rankings in T20Is, but Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid know that these bilateral series wins will eventually count for nothing if India falter in the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
