"Our Plan Was...": Shikhar Dhawan Shares India's Batting Strategy After Win Over South Africa In 2nd ODI

India captain Shikhar Dhawan said the team's plan to take on the South African bowlers in the first ten overs of the run chase clicked as the hosts notched a comfortable seven-wicket win in the second ODI to level the three-match series in Ranchi on Sunday. India chased down the target of 279 with 25 balls remaining, riding on a brilliant 113 not out off 111 balls from Shreyas Iyer and 93 from Ishan Kishan. "The ball was coming on nicely but it was keeping low. So our plan was to take on the bowlers in the first ten overs," Dhawan said at the post-match presentation.

Shreyas Iyer struck a sublime century while Ishan Kishan displayed his brute force against a formidable South African attack to set up a series levelling seven-wicket win for India in the second ODI here on Sunday. Mohammed Siraj led an inexperienced Indian bowling lineup brilliantly to restrict South Africa to 278/7 after the visitors opted to bat. Iyer made his second ODI hundred (113 not out off 111) and shared a match winning 161-run stand with Kishan (93 off 84) to ensure a comfortable win in 45.5 overs for a second string Indian team.

"Don't See X-Factor In These 2 That Rishabh Pant Has": Ex Selector On India Stars

Former chief selector Saba Karim feels Rishabh Pant remains India's first choice wicketkeeper, despite the presence of Sanju Samson and youngster Ishan Kishan. While suggesting that Samson can play in the team as a pure batter, Karim believes that Kishan hasn't made the most of the opportunities given to him by the management. Karim further pointed out that Pant has the X-factor, which gives him an edge over Samson and Kishan. He also backed Pant to retain his place in the team in both red and white-ball cricket.

Shubman Gill could do no wrong on Monday. The 22-year-old opener smacked 130 off 97 balls, hitting 15 fours and a six, to help India reach 289/8 in 50 overs. He shared a 140-run third-wicket partnership with Ishan Kishan, who reached his half-century before being run out by Tony Munyonga.

Shubman Gill ended his long wait to score his first international century as he reached the three-figure mark in the ongoing 3rd ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare. Watch: Ishan Kishan's Throw Hits Axar Patel. Here's What Happened After That

India so far have completely outplayed Zimbabwe in the first two ODIs of the three-match series in Harare. After registering a 10-wicket in the first ODI, India bowled out Zimbabwe for a paltry total of 161 in the second ODI. During Zimbabwe's innings in the second ODI, a funny incident happened. In the 28th over, Ishan Kishan stunned Axar Patel with a throw in the field, which hit the latter on his body. Deepak Hooda came into the attack and off his second delivery of his second over, the ball went into the deep square leg area, where Kishan was deployed.
