There was a very regrettable incident on Thursday at the French Open as Irina-Camelia Begu threw her racquet in frustration and it caused a child in the crowd to cry. Begu had slipped a break down in the third set to her opponent, 30th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, in their second-round encounter at Roland-Garros when she let her frustration get the better of her.
French wildcard Leolia Jeanjean caused a major upset at the French Open when she destroyed former world number one Karolina Pliskova 6-2 6-2 in the second round on Thursday.

Iga Swiatek marked her first match as world number one with an 18th straight victory as she steered Poland closer to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals on Friday. The 20-year-old swept past 123rd-ranked Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-1, 6-0 in just 55 minutes on the back of five service breaks as the Poles opened a 2-0 lead over Romania in their qualifier in Radom. Swiatek went into the qualifier on a hot streak, putting together 17 successive wins on her way to titles in Doha, Indian Wells and Miami.
Swiatek will play her first match as world number one when she leads Poland against Romania in the Billie Jean King Cup this weekend, desperate to improve her record on home ground. Swiatek, the first ever Pole to ascend to the top of the rankings, lost both singles matches she played the last time she appeared in front of her own crowd in a 2019 play-off against Ukraine. "The last couple of years have shown that it's not easy to play with your home crowd because it's the same kind of pressure you feel," said the 20-year-old on Thursday who was still outside the top 60 three years ago.
