Honda’s Iker Lecuona led the way at home as WorldSBK free practice fired up at Barcelona-Catalunya on Friday morning.
In what was a titanic battle, the closest ever WorldSBK pole margin was set at Magny-Cours with both Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) and Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha) setting an identical pole time although Rea heads the grid courtesy of a faster second-fastest lap time.
HRC rest rider Tetsuta Nagashima will line up on the MotoGP grid as a wildcard entry for the Grand Prix of Japan.
Former WorldSBK king Jonathan Rea topped the timesheets as testing at Barcelona concluded early due to rain.
FIM Superbike World Championship star Iker Lecuona is keen on a return to the Suzuka 8 Hours following his debut FIM Endurance World Championship victory at the legendary Japanese track earlier this month. Spaniard Lecuona partnered joined forces with home-based riders Tetsuta Nagashima and Takumi Takahashi to win the 43rd Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race for Team HRC aboard a Honda CB R1000 RR-RSP.
Whilst there might have been drama and heartbreak behind, it was a dominant win for #33 Team HRC in 43rd Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours with the line-up of Tetsuta Nagashima, Takumi Takahashi and Iker Lecuona taking the chequered flag by over a lap in the third round of the FIM Endurance World Championship. The #33 CBR1000RR-RSP was peerless throughout the eight hours and save for a brief dice at the early restart there was little doubt of who was favourite baring the unexpected.

There has been late drama and a safety car in the final hour of the race after the leading season-contender #7 YART — Yamaha Official Team YZF-M1 got caught up with the #74 Akeno Speed – Yamaha Superstock bike at T13 such that rider Marvin Fritz had to dig the Yamaha out of the air barriers to get it back to the pits.
