Ollie Pope made a double century after Ben Duckett compiled the fastest 150 in a Test at Lord's as England ran riot against an outclassed Ireland in their Ashes warm-up on Friday. Pope's 205 and Duckett's 182 were the cornerstones of England's imposing 524-4 declared on the second day of four, a lead of 331 runs. The pair shared a second-wicket stand of 252 after coming together at 109-1 after Zak Crawley's exit for 56. Both Duckett and Pope scored a hundred runs in a session on Friday, left-hander Duckett achieving the feat in the morning's play and Pope matching him between lunch and tea.
Ollie Pope has broken the record for the quickest Test double hundred to be made in England on a day dominated by the hosts at Lord’s. He reached 200 in just 207 balls on a completely one-sided day of cricket against Ireland. Ad Pope reached the milestone with a huge six, although he was bowled out with the next delivery.
Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Wednesday became the second player in India to take 500 wickets and score 5,000 runs in international cricket. He accomplished this landmark during Australia's third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India in Indore. After dismissing the Aussie opener Travis Head leg-before-wicket for nine runs of six balls, Jadeja got his 500th international cricket wicket. Jadeja has scored 5,527 runs in 298 international matches across 241 innings at an average of 33.29. He has scored three hundreds and 31 half-centuries, with the best individual score of 175*.
Ravindra Jadeja added another feather to his already illustrious career by becoming the fastest Indian cricketer to score 2500 runs and take 250 wickets in Tests. The feat was achieved during Day 1 of the Test encounter between India and Australia when KL Rahul pulled off a blinder to dismiss the in-form Usman Khawaja. Jadeja was able to reach the milestone in his 62nd Test match – three matches ahead of India legend Kapil Dev who did it in 65 games. Overall, Jadeja claimed the second spot just behind legendary England all-rounder Ian Botham who achieved this impressive feat in just 55 matches.
After one win in 17 Tests, England have now secured four victories on the bounce, with each of them coming after superb run chases.
England picked up four wickets on the fourth morning but were still staring at the prospect of a record chase in their series decider against India.
Perhaps one series does not a summer make, but the signs were there for all to see in England’s 3-0 series victory over New Zealand that this could be a new dawn of Test Match cricket, and the statistics back that up.
