Novak Djokovic makes it 370 weeks at number one

Novak Djokovic extended his record at the top of the ATP rankings to 370 weeks on Monday while Rafael Nadal drops down a place to number five. The Spaniard was knocked out of the Italian Open in the last 16 and is leapfrogged by the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas who made it all the way to the final where he was turned over in straight sets by an inspired Djokovic. The Serb, who claimed his sixth Italian Open title, has now spent 60 weeks more at number one than the next man on the list Roger Federer (310).

Carlos Alcaraz Soars To Sixth In ATP Rankings After Madrid Open Romp

Spanish teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz rose three places to sixth in the men's ATP rankings following his victory in the Madrid Open on Sunday. The 19-year-old's 6-3, 6-1 trouncing of Germany's Alexander Zverev in Madrid was his fourth title of the year and rubber-stamped his chances of lifting his first Grand Slam in the upcoming French Open. He had beaten his compatriot Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic on the way to the final. The only worry for Alcaraz is a sore ankle which will see him miss this week's Rome tournament in order to be fit for the French Open which gets underway on May 22.

Novak Djokovic eased past Hubert Hurkacz with a routine 6-3, 6-4 victory on Friday to advance to the Madrid Open semi-finals, as he bids for a fourth title in the Spanish capital. Djokovic looked much more like his usual self at the Manolo Santana Stadium on a sunny day in Madrid as he continued to work his way back towards top form ahead of the French Open, which begins later this month. The 34-year-old was given a walkover into the quarter-finals when opponent Andy Murray withdrew from their highly anticipated clash due to illness and the top-seeded Serb got straight down to business against Hurkacz.
