Defending champion Djokovic was outplayed by Rune, who recorded his second successive win over the world No. 1 after also beating him in the Paris Masters final in November.
ROME — Holger Rune recorded his second victory over Novak Djokovic in little more than six months, beating the 22-time Grand Slam champion 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 Wednesday to reach the Italian Open semifinals.
Holger Rune was involved in a confrontation over a disputed line call with umpire Mohamed Lahyani during his Italian Open quarter-final against Novak Djokovic. Rune made an impressive start to the match as he won the opening set 6-2 against the world No. 1.
