Veteran cricketer Faf du Plessis was acquired for Rs 7 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2022 auction on Saturday. The South African batter was involved in a bidding war between RCB, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC). A player with a lot of experience, Du Plessis can become a pivotal figure for the franchise in the upcoming season and has been backed by RCB's Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson. Speaking to the outfit's social media handle, Hesson said, "We see him as a highly experienced player at the top of the order. It allows us to look at how we balance our side."

A bidding war for Harshal took place between RCB, and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), and in the end, the player went to the former. Nitish Rana was picked up by KKR for Rs 8 crore while West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 8.75 crore. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan remained unsold as no franchise showed interest in him.

KL Rahul and all-rounder Axar Patel were on Friday ruled out of the three-match T20I series against the West Indies beginning in Kolkata from February 16 due to injuries with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda replacing them in the squad. While Rahul has suffered a hamstring injury while fielding in the second ODI on February 9, Axar has not fully recovered from his shin injury that also forced him to miss the South Africa tour. "Vice-captain KL Rahul and all-rounder Axar Patel have been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies to be played in Kolkata from 16th February, 2022," the BCCI stated in the press release.
