Harshal Patel wants slower pitches, bigger groundsRAJKOT: Seamer Harshal Patel, who played a big part in India's win in Visakhapatnam and is fast emerging as a mainstay in T20Is, feels execution is key to remain "one step ahead" of the batters in this particular format. "As a bowler my job is to stay one step ahead of batsmen. At the end of the day, you can have 15 plans, but on a particular day, in a pressure situation, if you don't go out and execute with confidence, things won't fall in place. My focus is on trying to execute the best possible delivery at that point in time," said Patel after the Indian team's practice session at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium here.
As he doesn't possess the pace of Umran Mailk, India medium pacer Harshal Patel feels he has to keep upping his ‘variations' game to extend his nascent international career. Harshal had made his India debut after the T20 World Cup last November and more than six months into international cricket, the 31-year-old has 17 wickets in 11 games at an average of 19.52. Slower pitches suit his style of bowling more and that was evident in the last two games after the hammering he got on a true Kotla surface in the series opener.
Hardik Pandya was deservingly named skipper of the Indian team for the two-match T20 International series against Ireland in Dublin on June 26 and 28. The only new face in the side is Maharashtra right-hand batter Rahul Tripathi, who was rewarded for his stellar batting during this edition of IPL where he scored more than 400 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The BCCI on Wednesday announced Team India's squad for the upcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland, starting June 26th in June. Hardik Pandya will lead the Indian team, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named vice-captain. Rahul Tripathi has also found a place in the squad. Hardik will lead India for the first time, and this comes after he led Gujarat Titans to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 title in their debut season. He is currently a part of the team for the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa.
Facing a must-win situation after losing the first two games, a young Indian team, led by skipper Rishabh Pant, made a strong comeback in the third T20I, and defeated South Africa by 48 runs in Vishakhapatnam. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan scored fifties, before Hardik Pandya's 31-run knock took India to 179 for five in 20 overs. In reply, South Africa kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for a paltry total of 131. Harshal Patel registered his best international figures of 4 for 25 while Yuzvendra Chahal also bagged three wickets to cap off a dominant win.
