Shafali Verma, dropped from the India ODI squad, has the full backing of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who is eager to see the aggressive opener back in her "zone" ahead of Women's World Cup at home next year. Apart from Shafali, India will not have the services of wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia who suffered a wrist injury during the Women's Big Bash League. "She (Shafali) is a very important player for us and has done exceptionally well for the country. We are looking forward to seeing her get back into her zone and perform well for the team," Harmanpreet said on the eve of their series-opener against Australia.

Captain Harmnapreet Kaur is the only Indian player in the 50-player shortlist for the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) Team of the Decade, released on Thursday. The greatest players from across the 10-year history of the WBBL will be honoured this season, with the Big Bash to name an official Team of the Decade. The right-handed Indian batter has played 62 matches for Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades in the WBBL so far. She struck 1440 runs at an average of 37.89 including seven half-centuries.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur climbed to the joint ninth spot while opener Smriti Mandhana remained fourth in the latest ICC Women's ODI rankings, released in Dubai on Tuesday. Kaur, who played an important part in her team's six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the third ODI of their ICC Women's Championship series in Ahmedabad, had slipped three slots after the first two matches. However, her 59 not out off 63 balls pushed her back into the top 10. Left-hander Mandhana, who won the player of the match award for her knock of 100, added 23 rating points to reach a tally of 728, just five less than Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu in the list led by Natalie Sciver-Brunt of England with 760 rating points.

Charismatic India batter Smriti Mandhana finally played a knock befitting her calibre as India defeated New Zealand by six wickets in the deciding game to seal the three-match Women's ODI series 2-1 on Tuesday. Mandhana (100 off 122 balls), who wasn't able to showcase her class at the top of the order in the two previous games, made her 8th ODI hundred century, the most by an Indian in the forma. India coasted to the 233 run target in 44.2 overs. New Zealand had recovered to reach 232 for five from a precarious 88/5 courtesy Brooke Halliday (86 off 96 deliveries).
