Agarkar, who is the chairman of selectors, explained that Hardik's fitness is one of the primary reasons behind the team's decision to move on to Suryakumar from the leadership perspective. India great Krisnamachari Srikkanth, however, isn't entirely convinced by the reasons given by Agarkar in the joint press conference with Gambhir, saying he doesn't feel Hardik was snubbed over fitness concerns.

Reflecting on the decision, Ashish Nehra, the man who coached Hardik during his role as captain at Gujarat Titans, isn't surprised to see this move by the Indian team management.

Gautam Gambhir Takes Charge As India Hit The Ground In Sri Lanka Ahead Of White-Ball Series

The new head coach Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday took charge of the Indian men's cricket team as the visitors hit the ground running in their first practice session in Pallekele, ahead of three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Gambhir, who replaced the legendary Rahul Dravid at the helm, led the team to the ground and oversaw the training session which included fielding drills and sessions with the players. The training session was mostly around running, catching and one-on-one interactions. The new T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was also involved in an interaction with the players.

This came as a surprise for many fans as all-rounder Hardik Pandya was expected to don the leader's cap. However on Monday, India's T20I squad left for Sri Lanka and heartfelt scenes were captured from the airport. At the airport, Hardik was seen a joyful mood as he hugged India's assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
