The Ahmedabad franchise of the Indian Premier League officially announced its new name as Gujarat Titans on Thursday. The franchise will be playing in IPL 2022, which will be its first ever season in the league, along with Lucknow Super Giants. The announcement has been met with lot of fanfare from cricket followers and the new team's fan base. The franchise posted a tweet which had "Shubh Aarambh" written on it, which in English means "Good Start".

Indian Premier League will be called the Gujarat Titans, the franchise announced on Wednesday. The franchise, owned by private equity firm CVC Capital and to be led by India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, said the name was chosen to pay tribute to the state's rich cricketing legacy. “Debuting in the 15th season of the IPL, the Gujarat Titans will pay tribute to the state's rich cricketing legacy, which has seen it produce countless Indian international cricket legends over the years,” the franchise said in statement on Wednesday.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya will skip the Ranji Trophy starting on February 10 to focus on his India comeback in white-ball cricket. Kedar Devdhar was named skipper of the Baroda team on Monday. Vishnu Solanki was named Devdhar's deputy as the Baroda Cricket Association announced a 20-member squad ahead of the first phase of the tournament. However, Hardik's name is missing from the squad list.

Hardik Pandya received plenty of criticism after Team India's early exit from the T20 World Cup last year. Many fans and experts felt that the all-rounder wasn't fully fit which prevented him from bowling in the opener against Pakistan. The 28-year-old has been suffering from a back injury for quite some time which saw him play as a batter for most part of 2021.
