"Severe Implications": Jay Shah's Warning To Players Skipping Domestic Red-Ball Games

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has penned a note to top cricketers, including centrally contracted and India 'A' players, emphasing the importance of domestic cricket for national selection. According to a report in the Indian Express, Shah warned the players that domestic red-ball games remain a "critical yardstick for selection" and non-participation in it will have "severe implications". According to the letter, Shah addressed "the concerning trend of players prioritising the Indian Premier League (IPL) over domestic red-ball cricket".

Why Did Ishan Kishan Miss Ranji Trophy Match Despite BCCI Directive? Report Reveals

Ishan Kishan's absence from Ranji Trophy continued as the wicketkeeper-batter, who plays domestic cricket for Jharkhand, skipped the final round of matches that started on Friday, a move that might not go down well with BCCI especially after the diktat from secretary Jay Shah. Jharkhand are playing Rajasthan in Jamshedpur and even Deepak Chahar, who is currently training with the Chennai Super Kings, skipped the last round Ranji game. It is learnt that Kishan was asked by a senior member of the Indian team think-tank to play Ranji Trophy in order to make a comeback to the Test team but the flamboyant keeper-batter has reportedly said he was "working on certain technical aspects" of his game and was not ready for red-ball cricket. The 25-year-old from Patna, who is currently training with his Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya in Baroda, is set to make a comeback to competitive cricket for his employers Reserve Bank of India in Mumbai's DY Patil T20 tournament.

Jay Shah Reveals Rahul Dravid's Future As India Coach With Big T20 World Cup Statement

Rahul Dravid will continue to remain in the position of India's head coach till the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in June this year, confirmed BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Dravid's contract ended after the ODI World Cup final last year, but he was asked to continue in his role along with other support staff for the December-January tour to South Africa without finalising the tenure. But Shah said he held an initial talk with Dravid here before arriving at the decision to retain the former captain's services till the ICC showpiece to be held in the West Indies and the USA. “After the (2023) World Cup, Rahul bhai had to leave for the South Africa tour immediately. We did not get to meet in between which finally happened today,” Shah said here on the sidelines of the renaming function of the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Wednesday night.

Why Rohit Sharma, And Not Hardik Pandya, Was Chosen As India's Captain At 2024 T20 World Cup? Jay Shah Explains

BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming T20 World Cup being jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA. With all-rounder Hardik Pandya still recovering from an ankle injury suffered in October last year, the board feels Rohit must continue as skipper in the format. "Rohit was captaining (in the past in other formats) and he came back for the Afghanistan series, which means we were going to let him continue forward," Shah told the media on the sidelines of the ceremony to rename the SCA Stadium after former board secretary Niranjan Shah.

IPL 2024: Sunil Gavaskar's Big 'Shubman Gill And Ashish Nehra' Remark In Bold Gujarat Titans Prediction

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has backed Gujarat Titans (GT) to qualify for the playoffs in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), despite captain Hardik Pandya's trade to Mumbai Indians. Under the guidance of former India pacer Ashish Nehra, Hardik led GT to the IPL title in their first season in the tournament in 2022. The franchise also reached the final of the tournament last year, losing to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Ahmedabad. Despite Hardik's departure, Gavaskar feels that Nehra can still inspire GT in the upcoming season with a new captain in Shubman Gill at the helm.

Why No Ranji Trophy Mandate For Hardik Pandya? BCCI Official Explains

Indian cricket seems to be heading towards an overhaul, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) looking to make Ranji Trophy participation mandatory for certain categories of players. The overhaul seems to be in line after the Ishan Kishan fiasco that saw the wicket-keeper batter preferring personal training sessions over playing for his state team, Jharkhand, in the Ranji Trophy. The BCCI reportedly wants to see the likes of Ishan, Krunal Pandya, and Deepak Chahar turn up for the red-ball event. But, no such directive has yet been issued to Hardik Pandya, who also remains focussed on personal training sessions.
