"Selection Not In My Hands...": Mohammed Siraj On Indian Cricket Team Return

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season with Gujarat Titans (GT), Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj said that a return to the Indian team is not on his hands, after watching Men in Blue lift the ICC Champions Trophy this year. He said that his focus remains on performing well and taking wickets for his team. Siraj was speaking on the season six of Backstage with Boria to Boria Majumdar. He also recalled when he started thinking of selection in T20 World Cup 2022 following that year's IPL, he could not perform well and since then, he has decided to focus on things he can control.

IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans SWOT Analysis And Strongest Playing XI

Shubman Gill faces captaincy litmus test as Gujarat Titans bid to return to the playoffs for the first time under his leadership. After back-to-back runs to final in their first two seasons under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, including the title-winning campaign in 2022, GT received a reality check under a young captain in Gill, finishing 8th last season. Despite Jos Buttler also part of the franchise for IPL 2025, GT made it clear they are looking into the future with Gill, who has been touted as the next big thing in world cricket.

Mohammed Siraj Backs Lifting Of Saliva Ban From IPL: 'It Will Help Reverse Swing'

India pacer Mohammed Siraj on Thursday wholeheartedly welcomed the BCCI's decision to lift the saliva ban ahead of IPL 2025, saying it will help the bowlers find "reverse swing" even in benign conditions. The BCCI removed the ban on use of saliva on the cricket ball after a majority of the team captains agreed to its proposal, making it the first major competition to do away with the restriction that was a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. "It's very good for bowlers. It's excellent news for us bowlers because when the ball is not doing anything, applying saliva on the ball will increase the chances of finding some reverse swing," Siraj, who has joined Gujarat Titans this season, told PTI.

IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans Skipper Shubman Gill Wants Team To "Maximize The Powerplay"

Ahead of his side's Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign opener against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill stressed on maximising the powerplay phase while batting, saying that not being able to do so last season was one of the reasons why they failed to move to playoffs after two great seasons. GT will kickstart their IPL campaign against PBKS at Narendra Modi Stadium on March 25. During last year's IPL, GT's run rate during the first six overs was 7.72, the lowest among all teams, and Gill struck at 131.08 during that phase.

Keeping Captaincy And Batting Apart Is Better: Gujarat Titans Captain Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill believes that a successful captain needs to keep his batting separate from leadership as mixing the two is never in the best interest of the team. Gill took over the mantle of Gujarat Titans from Hardik Pandya last season and his start was an inauspicious one with the team finishing a lowly eighth after playing back-to-back finals in 2022 and 2023. "The more you keep the captaincy and batting separate, the better it is. In my experience, if I am going to bat, the best thing for me is, that I concentrate on batting. The decision I take as a batter, that is the best decision for me," Gill said at the pre-season media conference here on Wednesday. "When we are fielding, at that time, or off the field, I get more involved in captaincy. The more I bat, as a batsman, the better it is for me," said Gill, who had scored a massive 890 runs during the 2023 season.

India Pacer Backed To Shine In IPL After Champions Trophy 2025 Snub: "Wasn't There..."

IPL 2025 is set to get underway in just a few days, and could be the platform for many players to make a case for a spot in the Indian team. One such player, who has slightly fallen out of favour in recent months, will be pacer Mohammed Siraj. The 31-year-old has lost his place in both white-ball formats, and was not part of India's Champions Trophy-winning squad. However, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels the IPL could be a good chance for Siraj to get back in the reckoning.

IPL Teams Can Replace Players Mid-Season. Report Reveals BCCI's 'Exceptional' Conditions

The IPL 2025 starts on March 22 with a match between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Before the top T20 franchise league starts, a report has claimed that the BCCI has made provisions under 'exceptional circumstances' to make partial replacement in the squad. The BCCI's communication in this regard has already been sent to the 10 franchises, according to a report in Cricbuzz. However, the players can be picked from RAPP (Registered Available Player Pool) only. The report also claimed that managers of the teams have said that this provision has never been utilised before.
