IPL 2023: Lucknow Super Giants Skipper KL Rahul Registers Unwanted Batting Record In Loss Against Gujarat Titans

India and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter KL Rahul registered an unwanted record to his name on Saturday in the seven-run loss to defending champions Gujarat Titans in Lucknow. He played the third-slowest knock in IPL history, by a batter who has played atleast 60 balls in his innings. In the match, KL scored 68 off 61 balls. His knock consisted of eight boundaries. His runs came at a strike rate of 111.48. His knock is the third slowest in IPL history, behind JP Duminy, who played an inning of 59 (63) with a strike rate of 93.65 against Punjab Kings in 2009 while playing for Mumbai Indians (MI). Following him is Aaron Finch, who scored 68 (62) with a strike rate of 109.68 for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Mumbai Indians in 2014.

Watch: Contrasting Emotions Of KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya Say It All After LSG's Terrible Last Over vs GT

Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma produced one of the best death-bowling performances in T20 cricket, as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul's half-century went in vain with Gujarat Titans (GT) clinching a seven-run win over the hosts in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Lucknow. Chasing 136 runs, KL Rahul started off by playing another maiden over. But he went on a rampage from the third over, smashing Mohammed Shami for three successive fours and Rashid Khan for two straight boundaries in the fifth over. Kyle Mayers was the anchor on the other end, with KL acting as an accelerator. LSG crossed the 50-run mark in 5.3 overs.

KL Rahul's Baffling Batting Approach Leads To Seven-Run Defeat For LSG Against Gujarat Titans

Skipper KL Rahul managed to snatch defeat from jaws of victory with a baffling batting approach as defending champions Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow Super Giants by seven runs in a low-scoring IPL thriller, in Lucknow on Saturday. Chasing target of 136 on a sluggish pitch, LSG were cruising along at 105 for 1 after 14 overs with 31 needed off 36 deliveries but ended at 128 for 7 at the end of 20 overs.

IPL 2023: "Don't Know How It Happened...": KL Rahul Shocked After LSG Lose 4 wickets in 4 Balls To Go Down vs GT

It was a sight that has rarely played at the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chasing a paltry target of 136 against defending champions Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants had reached 105/1 in 14 overs. With just 31 needed off the next six overs and half-centurion KL Rahul at the crease, a win was within grasp for LSG. But then what transpired shocked everybody.  GT bowlers checked the run flow as they conceded 19 runs and took two wickets in the next five overs. Going into the last over, LSG needed 12 off the last six balls. Though it was tough, it was not impossible, especially with a set Rahul, batting on 66, at the crease.

"Brainless": Venkatesh Prasad Blasts KL Rahul's Lucknow Super Giants After Shocking Loss Against Gujarat Titans

Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad was extremely critical of KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants after they were beaten by Gujarat Titans in a last-over thriller. LSG were off a brilliant start and with Rahul scoring another half-century, they looked all set to clinch the win. However, with 17 runs needed from the last over, Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma produced a brilliant show of fast bowling as they could only manage to score 9 runs and lost four wickets in the final over. Rahul was guilty of slow batting as he slammed 50 off 33 balls but scored just 18 in the next 28 deliveries.
