MONZA, Italy : Lewis Hamilton lapped fastest in final free practice for the Italian Grand Prix on Saturday, with teammate George Russell making it a Mercedes one-two at the top of the timesheets.
Max Verstappen was fastest in Friday's first practice session for the Italian Grand Prix, pipping Charles Leclerc to the top time as he tries to get his Formula One title defence back on track. Championship leader Verstappen clocked one minute, 21.676 seconds, 0.228sec ahead of Leclerc who is the main hope for the massed ranks of Ferrari fans at Monza. McLaren driver Lando Norris, Verstappen's closest rival for the world title, was 0.241sec off the pace in third.

Italian teenager Andrea Kimi Antonelli will step up to Formula One next season and replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, the team announced on Saturday. Antonelli, who turned 18 on August 25, will partner George Russell, another product of the team's junior programme, after Hamilton moves to Ferrari after this year. "Our 2025 driver line-up combines experience, talent, youth and out-and-out raw speed. We are excited about what George and Kimi bring to the team both as individual drivers, but also as a partnership," team chief Toto Wolff said in a statement.
