New Zealand defeated Ireland by three wickets in the second ODI of the three-match series on Tuesday. During the game, a bizarre incident caught everyone's attention as umpire Paul Reynolds was forced to reverse his decision after ruling a batter out. New Zealand seamer Blair Tickner trapped Ireland all-rounder Simi Singh outside off stump. It was a short ball from Tickner that found the edge of Singh's willow and went directly into the hands of wicketkeeper Tom Latham. Umpire Reynolds raised his finger but the decision was changed later on as Tickner had dropped his towel during his run-up to deliver the ball.
A squad of 14 players has been confirmed for Ireland's T20 international against New Zealand at Stormont later this month.
Former India batter Aakash Chopra was impressed with Sanju Samson's performance in the second T20I against Ireland. Samson scored 77 runs off 42 balls as the Hardik Pandya-led Team India posted a massive total of 225/7 after opting to bat first. Samson replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad in India's playing XI after the latter was ruled out of the game after picking up an injury while fielding in the first T20I. While analysing the second T20I, Chopra likened Samson's batting style to that of Rohit Sharma.
India sealed a thrilling four-run win over Ireland in the second T20I to seal the two-match series on Tuesday. India made three changes for the second T20I against Ireland, with Sanju Samson, Harshal Patel and Ravi Bishnoi getting a nod in the playing XI. As India captain Hardik Pandya announced the changes in the playing XI, the crowd present at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin went wild upon hearing Samson's inclusion in the team. Even Hardik had a smile on his face after hearing the crowd's roar.
Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson's scripted India's highest-ever partnership in T20 Internationals (T20Is) with their massive stand against Ireland on Tuesday. The two stitched up a 176-run partnership in just 87 deliveries to help India post 225/7. Their partnership eclipsed Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul's 165-run stand against Sri Lanka in 2017. Samson contributed 67 off 34 in their partnership for the second wicket, while Hooda hit 98 off 53. Hooda eventually finished with 104 off 57 deliveries, while Samson scored 77 off 42.
When India posted a total of 225/7 in the 2nd T20I against Ireland at The Village in Malahide, few would have anticipated a last-ball thriller. But the Irish batters were in no mood to go down without a fight and they took the attack to the Indian bowlers. After Paul Stirling's whirlwind knock gave them the perfect start, captain Andy Balbirnie took over and hit a fine half-century. Knocks from Harry Tector, George Dockrell and Mark Adair then almost saw the hosts over the line in what would have been an upset for the ages, but they eventually fell short by just four runs.
India held their nerve to beat Ireland by four runs as the world's top-ranked Twenty20 side survived a scare in Malahide on Tuesday.
